What Is Yin Yoga?

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Yin Yoga is yoga that works the tissues of the body. While seemingly gentler and laid back than other yoga styles, in reality, it gives a tough, thorough workout that stretches the body.

Holding the postures takes long in this style of yoga and stretches the tissues and joints in various parts of the body. Because of its helpful benefits, some doctors prescribe a treatment of this type yoga to help people with addictions deal with the emotions and find the tranquility they need.

There are approximately 36 different positions to learn with this style. The purpose behind them is to draw the energy (or the chi) from dormancy to work throughout the body. The positions or asanas should be completed in a particular order to help achieve that energy filled body.

Yin Yoga is not the new kid on the block but rather a resurrection of traditional old style yoga. The main difference is found in the length of time used to remain in the same pose. Some of the poses are short – just a few minutes or so but other positions are held stationary for up to twenty minutes.

That might not seem like it’s such a workout, but try doing on the poses and holding it still (don’t forget the proper breathing!) for twenty minutes. If you haven’t ever done it and haven’t familiarized yourself with the correct techniques, by the end of the twenty minutes, your muscles will quiver from the exertion of holding still.

Relaxation and learning how to stretch the tissues and joints is an important part of this type of yoga. It’s only by knowing the first steps to limber and flex the body that you’ll be capable of moving on to the positions.

Learning the poses is what helps those who practice yoga with the meditation postures. Performing this yoga brings a satisfaction to the mind in that it relieves stress and it brings a relaxation to the body in that the tension is freed from the joints.

All forms of yoga can transform lives and can help to slow the ravages and the toil that time dishes out onto the body. Taking up Yin Yoga has a lot to offer anyone and it’s a great style for the beginner and those who are recuperating from emotional trouble. It can bring a deeper level of energy, balance and better health to all who practice it.

Alternate Your Strength Training Workout With Some Yoga

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Many who think of strength training equipment think of the massive muscles that many bodybuilders get and consequently show off in competitions. This can be a plus or a drawback for many consumers. The average consumer likes to be able to say feel good about themselves when they go swimming, but many are concerned about building too much muscle and suffering from stereotypical viewpoints. This needn’t be a worry for anyone considering strength training equipment.

The average body builder works out a lot in order to get the muscles they are famous for, plus they have to be on a very strict regimen with lots of protein and little or no fat. It would take you a lot of effort to become as built as the average bodybuilder. Many consumers can use simple free weights in order to maintain the muscle mass that they have or to add a little muscle strength. Some use strength training equipment to add a little tone or shape to certain areas of the body.

If you use them properly and alternate your strength training workout with some yoga or stretching exercises there is little risk of you bulking up too much. Many find that they enjoy the challenge of working out with strength training equipment. You can gradually increase the weight as you work out over a period of time and after your workout you really will feel the ‘burn’ in your muscles.

Though you should be careful of using too much weight at once. Its easy to sprain a muscle and hurt yourself, putting you out of commission for a few days or more. A good rule of thumb is that if you think you can start out with a certain weight begin about five or even ten pounds lighter and after a few repetitions move up to the next weight level. You can check out strength training equipment reviews online for an idea of what others are doing.

How To Know When You’re Ready For Advanced Yoga Classes

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Yoga is more a practice than a workout or sport. It is the practice of bring mind and body together, working with energies through movement and poses and using your mind to transform your body. Yoga involves meditation and discipline. As with anything, advancing to the next stage takes patience and perseverance. Advanced Yoga classes can be demanding you must be ready before you take that next step.

When you begin Yoga you start with the basics in learning breathing techniques and poses. Mastering breathing is a great achievement as well as mastering the poses. Strength and stamina grow as you are able to hold poses longer and learn more complicated poses. As you learn to breathe, you can hold the poses longer, causing muscles to react, blood to flow and energy to expand. Advanced Yoga classes are for those who have mastered intermediate poses, have achieved mind and body balance and whose breathing techniques allow for full control with a keener awareness of their breathing and movements. By this time strength and resilience is increased and poses can be sustained for longer periods of time. Flexibility is increased as well.

Be careful not to advance too quickly, for you may miss out on all that the level that you are at has to offer. The idea is to fully master each level and to live in that moment where you can embrace the entire class to the fullest. Where everything you are doing is coming with ease while still challenging you, where you fully understand and can fully do each and every thing with in that level. Some people jump into advanced Yoga classes, only to find themselves not ready. The poses maybe too hard or way past what they can safely do. This can cause a drain of energy and put the body/mind connection into an out of balance state. It can actually be a set back to move ahead too quickly. Yoga is about living in the moment, slowing things down and feeling each breath. Don’t be in a hurry to move.
