Excellent Item At A Great Cost – Thick Yoga Mat Critique

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

I gave it a vinegar bath and let it sit in the sun for 24 hours, it’s good to go. As to smells, wash your mats.

I will never use another mat other than this Manduka black mat pro! I just realized there are so many things out there that serve the same purpose for less the price.

This mat is definitely a yoga must. I was a little hesitate at first due to the price as most regular mat or premium mats only cost up to $50. The smaller bumps are designed to face downwards to grip the floor and keep the yoga mat from sliding. With this mat it’s slightly different.

It is a huge investment, but well worth it if you enjoy Hot Yoga. The mat is heavier than other mats so it would be helpful to have a carrying case or strap, but once you experience the comfort, durability and support of this mat you will know where your dollars went and most assuredly you won’t be disappointed. I would give it 5 stars, but my hands still slip halfway through a vinyasa practice and I end up having to use my Yogi toes (which doesn’t “stick” as well as I would like it to, either). As many other reviewers stated, this mat is a bit slippery to begin with even after a quick wash and drying in the sun. It’s not too thin or too thick. It’s perfect and roles up nicely when I’m done with it. I could not even do the Down Dog without slipping from my hands n feet. I ended up using the generic mats that the club provides. I have tried using this mat several times.

Closed rib, hundred, half-roll backers beware! It’s like working out on a big piece of gasket material. In fact, you will get an excellent upper body workout just walking to class. If you are like me and have to carry extra yoga mats, eye pillows, a gym bag and a 13 month old, forget it. This is the Mercedes of yoga mats and padded enough for Pilates too. It is pricey, but you will not be disappointed!

I bought this mat to go over my wood flooring so that I can do stretching and some other exercise routines. It’s a GREAT mat. This is a great mat, I really recommend it, but if you are from the ones that sweat too much, it’s slippery with a lot of sweat! Still I love it because I mostly bought it because of the cushion. She has been using hers for over 2 years and it still looks like new. It took a few weeks for the coating (makes it a little slippery at first) and the scent to dissipate, but after the initial break-in period, this mat has stood up to lots of wear.

I started with a cheap mat that I purchased through a discount retailer. It lasted only a few months and a handful of yoga sessions so I decided to upgrade to this one.

I am looking forward to years of yoga. OSCILLATING SANDER.

Great For The Cost – Sticky Yoga Mat Review

Monday, January 9th, 2012

It is most definitely not for someone who sweats as prodigiously as I. I bought this Mat for my P90x routine. Instructions talk about some kind of invisible film you have to scrub off or give a few months to break in. I scrubbed it down 3 times without seeing any difference.

I purchased this mat for one reason and one reason only. It’s great for stretching exercises.

Unfortunately after breaking it in and using the Vermont organic mat wash (recommended by Manduka) my hands still slip a lot and require a towel or yogi toes at all times. Evidently, I’m purchasing the Jade Harmony mat as a replacement.

I am looking forward to years of yoga. This size is the best, less weight, thick enough for the POWER 90 and P90X training. I know it isn’t cheap, but I don’t regret the purchase at all and highly recommend this mat. It’s the best! If you can’t get rid of the film, spray it with Simple Green and let it bake in the sun. Once you try this mat, you will never want to practice on a cheap yoga mat again.

I’m an avid practitioner, and in five years of religious practice, the Manduka mat was my fourth mat purchased. I started with a Prana mat that went bald around the hands and feet positions for down dog. I decided to get another Manduka and I’m thrilled to have one again. My memory hadn’t failed me. I am able to hold balance poses easily on my mat (something I have found to be more difficult on softer mats). It is amazingly durable (no nicks or scratches after a few months of use). All-in-all this is a great mat and definitely worth the price if you are really into yoga. I’d also recommend that you go ahead and pick up some sort of carrier for it (make sure it’s big enough to accommodate it first), and Manduka makes a pretty nice one as a complement: the Manduka Large Mat Sack. Bottom line, it’s got some heft to it but it’s not non-transportable, as has been reported in some reviews. I’m all of 5′1″ and average weight and didn’t find it prohibitively heavy. Love it and Save money here. Simply the best mat I have ever practiced on.

It doesn’t smell either. My hands and feet sweat a lot and this mat holds me in place. I’m also a big fan of its length. Maybe its weight is the only drawback if you’re carrying it on your back.

I have used the Hugger Mugger version as well and I prefer this one hands down. rustic coffee table trunk.

Yoga: Fast Facts

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Yoga, the ancient Indian practice of meditation and exercise is now widely practiced the world over. Many get into yoga because of the benefits that they can get from it. The practice started out in India but is now a strong influence all over the world. It’s common to see people who practice yoga and even use yoga props for their poses.

It seems that for many people yoga is simply all about stretching. The truth is it is one of the best exercises that does not only improve flexibility but also strengthens and works out all the muscles in the body. There are actually two facets involved in yoga. One is the yoga pose and the other is the yoga lifestyle.

Yoga pose is all about the exercises that you do in a yoga class. Aside from stretching your limbs, you also exercise your breathing. The good thing about yoga is that you can do it anywhere. Props like yoga blocks could even aid you while you do your yoga poses even if you are by yourself. Sometimes, you’ll need the assistance of another person to do your poses, but with the help of props you can do it by yourself. Props also provide support for beginners and even experts who want to do more difficult poses.

The yoga lifestyle on the other hand goes beyond the exercises. It involves a change in your way of life. One of the most important things to change is diet. For many, it can be a total diet overhaul since we’re so used to meat and fast food. Yet all of these things are done not only for physical wellness but for mental and spiritual nourishment as well.

If you want to do yoga, you can enroll in some of the yoga classes offered in your place. You can also try home videos and by some useful equipment to help you with your poses. For instance you can start with the yoga block that helps you with proper alignment and improves your balance.

If done regularly, yoga can have remarkably positive effects on your health and well being. If you want to get started with yoga or want to buy yoga props etc, check this out. : yoga blocks

A Good Yoga Teacher Is Always In Demand

Friday, June 17th, 2011

In India nearly five thousand years ago there first developed a practice that has today become synonymous with healthy living. Yoga is a systematic means by which to improve the overall health of mind and body. For many it is about developing the spirit as well. Being a yoga teacher is for many people the ideal way to earn a living and more and more people are choosing to do just that.

The Hindu tradition from which the disciplines have emerged is vast and colourful. It contains a wide range of gods and goddesses, who rub shoulders with small local spirits. Even more can be found in rocks and rivers, lakes and mountains. For the believing Hindu the whole landscape is imbued with life and magic. To people who do not come from this particular religion it can look very confusing. Writers on the subject though suggest that all of these many spiritual beings are just aspects of one overall supreme god.

The stories that are associated with this religious tradition are full of colour and life. At times they may seem dark and sinister, at others they are joyful and life affirming. All of them have something to teach the believer and many of these teachings have made it into the yogic traditions that are practised across the world today. Some teachers enjoy sharing these stories with the class.

It today is practiced by people who have little or no knowledge of the Hindu religion or philosophy. It is practiced across the globe by thousands if not millions of people. Classes are run in even the smallest of places, and people from all backgrounds benefit from it. They may themselves have a variety of different religious backgrounds. Some classes are run by organisations which have their roots in different Indian philosophical traditions. Others will be offered by individual teachers, all of whom will have different interests and backgrounds.

Many people are drawn to the practice because they wish to improve their posture and flexibility. The exercises may enable people to achieve a better posture and it may also help them with their breathing. General health is said to improve, with anecdotal evidence suggesting that people who enjoy yoga are less prone to coughs and winter colds.

One lesser known benefit is that of concentration. The practices contained in the variety of yogic disciplines all require the development of greater concentration. It can assist people in becoming more single minded. This can help with thought processes. It can enable people to become more effective in the workplace. They may report feeling calmer and better able to cope with the many ups and downs that life throws at them.

This is one reason so many people in the public eye have been drawn towards yoga. These have included pop stars, movie stars and even politicians have advocated it and its benefits. These people have again increased the popularity of the practice. They are often advocates for particular schools of yoga which then experience a sudden increase in interest. It really started to enter the public consciousness in the western world during the 1960s when a number of high profile people in the celebrity world championed it and its benefits.

A good Yoga Langford teacher is usually in demand and most places will offer classes in a variety of different types.

Offering the best in yoga in Victoria BC and Victoria pilates training. British Colombia’s school of teacher training is your stop for spiritual and physical practices.

Why You Should Incorporate Meditation Techniques In Your Daily Lifestyle

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

When it comes to improving oneself, there are a lot of different methods; and for an individual to develop certain aspects of his life, he needs meditation and self improvement. These aspects can be about his thinking, overall health, controlling vices, and other areas that need to be improved.

One of the best things about meditation is that it does not require any particular equipment or money for its techniques to be learned. Many years of training is not required either.

Meditation is, in fact, the technique of clearing the mind to focus on one particular aspect. Again, this can be anything that needs further improvement. It can be something that needs to be developed, healed, or solved. For instance, it can be a long time problem that needs a resolution.

When a person meditates, he sits down comfortably, focuses his mind on a specific object, and breathes deeply, slowly, and deliberately. The object he has to focus on can be a flower, a lighted candle, or just about anything that can help set his mind. Turning on the television or computer is not advisable during meditation as this can be very distracting.

One way to maintain focus is to seek guided meditations. These styles of meditation can help a person achieve his goals by helping him focus on personal development, positive thinking, and self improvement. These will also tackle with his health issues such as weight control, curing insomnia, and quitting smoking.

Usually, there is soft music that accompanies the voice of the person presenting the meditation. This soothing music helps the person undergoing meditation to focus on the important words and leave his surrounding environment behind to embark on his journey towards self improvement.

There are different meditation techniques directed towards self improvement that allow a person to attain deeper levels of meditation. However, finding a specific technique that works best is not easy and may take some time.

One form of meditation is the autogenic form. Basically, it allows a person to open a communication channel that links his conscious mind and super-conscious mind. This form makes use of imagery, feelings, and intuition to allow the person to achieve the goals that he has set.

The Vipassana is another form of meditation that is also great for self improvement. It uses breathing techniques. It also focuses on the physical sensations of the body to help a person reach his goals. The Vipassana is mostly used in controlling and eliminating negativity to cultivate self improvement. Nonetheless, objectives can also be achieved by having a positive mind and attitude.

People say that prayer is talking to God. Meditation, on the other hand, is listening to God’s solutions and directions to accomplish the goals we set. Surely, meditation is one of the best practices that can help us achieve peace of mind, our goals, and a joyful soul. Meditation is a good practice that can benefit just about anyone.

Pregnancy Yoga – What Are The Benefits?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

For many women, becoming pregnant means they can finally change gears and let their bodies take over the phenomenal process of creating a baby. A stressful work life, fitness regime and other commitments which once seemed all important can now take a back seat. The months of pregnancy also provide a chance to gradually mentally prepare for the massive life change of having a child.

To make the most of this time it is important to switch to a gentler lifestyle. Unfortunately it can seem like everything from cheese to alcohol to aerobics is off limits, which can make a pregnant woman feel like she has to sit around twiddling her thumbs for 9 months! In reality it does not have to be this way. Keeping the body active is one of the best ways to stay healthy. Gentle walking is a great low impact exercise, swimming is excellent for soothing and supporting the body as it expands. All things considered, Yoga is possibly the perfect all round activity for pregnant women because it is one of the few purely non-competitive forms of exercise, as well as providing all the excellent benefits which yoga is well known for.

The benefits especially relevant during pregnancy include proper alignment, relaxation and breathing. Most antenatal advisors will talk ad nauseum about the importance of breathing during labour. It sounds obvious and somewhat patronising, yet during the intensity of a contraction, your breath can seem like the only thing you can focus on and control. By practicing yoga-style breathing in the lead up to labour, you are more likely to remember it when it counts, it can help level you out when you are excited, scared or tired. Don’t worry if it takes some time to master some of the breathing exercises – just focusing on deep Yoga breathing will have a profound affect on how you feel.

A good yoga teacher should also encourage better ways of sitting, standing and moving during pregnancy as your centre of gravity is altered. You can expect classes to be made up of a mix of traditional yoga poses slightly modified to work around a pregnant belly and a variety of possible labour positions. The notion of “active birthing’ that you hear so much about actually is very in tune with exploring different Yoga postures. This basically means the mother is encouraged to move around as much as she likes during her labour and find positions that instinctively feel right, often making the most of gravity by squatting or leaning forward on hands and knees. This is in direct contrast to the old fashioned delivery wards that would keep women lying on their backs during labour.

Although prenatal yoga is a vary gentle activity, as with all physical exercise, it is possible to overdo it. The main thing to be aware of is that you don’t over stretch during a pose as joints are much looser during pregnancy. This is because a hormone called Relaxin is produced which helps your pelvis soften and open slightly during childbirth. Taking it easy is a simple rule to accommodate and applies to all areas of life during pregnancy. Listening the body which is working hard to create a new life is the best thing you can do for yourself and your unborn child. Good practice for the months and years to come!
