Walking Meditation?

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Most Westerners think about meditation as somebody sitting, cross legged with their eyes shut and doubtless chanting some sort of mantra once again and once again. Meditating may also be performed standing up, lying down or walking. We’re going to look at walking meditation. In this position the walking alone is the focus of your meditation, instead of a candle or perhaps a mantra or your respiring. Take in the experience of the muscles in your legs.

Notice when they tense up and when they relax.. Really feel the changes in your toes as they meet the ground.

Recognize what has happened to your ankles as you stroll forward. Walking is an active meditation than some other types ( although respiring meditations could possibly get fairly energized also if you choose to allow them ). You also benefit from the physical exercise of walking, which can be an aerobicise in itself. It follows a walking meditation can be of general benefit to your well-being and can generally help to keep you fit. Give it a try to see how refreshed you’re feeling afterwards!

You might even attempt it whilst moving over more challenging terrain, for example when you’re hiking. It may entail practically nothing a lot more than just being much more aware and appreciative of the surroundings. The blisters and aches and pains related with walking lengthy distances over the excellent outdoors could be in great part averted with the appropriate mens hiking boots. It may, at very first thought, appear simple to buy the proper pair of hiking boots by just simply purchasing whichever pair looks most alluring to your eye – however, there’s much more to it than this.

The very first query that you might have to raise when attempting to look for a pair of boots is precisely what kind of trekking you will end up doing. As an example, you should consider the nature of the terrain over which you’ll be mostly traversing as well as the sorts of temperatures you’ll be exposed to. Various types of trekking footwear are available; some popular boots include the Vasque Breeze GTX and the Asolo Fugitive GTX. If you are on the lookout for a decent multi-purpose, you may be interested in the men’s Merrell Radius mid waterproof.

In any situation, if you concentrate much more on the action you are actually performing, emptying your mind and bringing towards the forefront of your attention the experience of what you are doing, this might unwind your mind and allow you to enter a state of mindfulness that makes your physical exertion really feel deeper and much more worthwhile mentally.

Both physical exercise and meditation are now thought to lead to great long-term effects on the brain, so getting each of these things into your life may have very good resutlts as you age. Some kinds of meditation entail nothing more than just focusing on your breathing and paying attention to your breaths in and out. If you’re moving or engaged in an activity like walking you need to look at one particular thing you can similarly concentrate on, like as suggested, the muscles within your legs.

Childrens Yoga

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

The question is why we always go for childrens yoga and not any other work out.

These days it is very alarming how many children are suffering from psychosomatic disorders such as sleeping disturbances, eating disturbances, headaches and very often wrong posture like sagging shoulders as well as stress related to pressure, competition and aggression in school. Children today are under a lot of stress and strain. Grounding, pressure to compete with other children, endless after-school activities, over-working – it all adds up. And just like their parents, kids today are turning to Yoga to help them relax.

Children’s yoga can be great fun as well as being tremendously advantageous to a child’s health and well-being. Stretching will help children become more flexible as well as strengthening their arms and legs. Doing yoga helps children exercise, play, connect more deeply with the inner self, and build up an intimate relationship with the natural world that surrounds them. Yoga brings that stunning inner light that all children have to the surface. Yoga will also improve a child’s breathing and circulation. Regular yoga practice for children will make them calmer, more relaxed and much happier.

Another approach is to create a guided imagination by telling them a story with a calming theme of some sort.

As you know children have the most active mind’s eye, they imagine all sorts of things. So when doing children’s yoga let them think that they are walking on a green pasture.

You can even let them think that they are butterflies in a beautiful garden. The main idea in here is to instill a sense of peace and feeling of oneness with nature. Children’s yoga should be taught more often and in different places. It is important to teach children the meaning of union of mind, body and spirit.

Effective Meditation Positions You Can Use

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Since early civilization, meditation has been practiced by people for the benefits it offers. You can dramatically affect the way stress impacts you by incorporating medidation into your daily life. Finding the right meditation posture or position for you may be the key for you to make meditation your daily habit.

One of the most well known positions for meditation is the cross legged position or lotus position. Many instructors teach their students this position which requires that you sit tall with a straight spine. You must avoid slouching because it can disrupt the free flow of energy or life force through your body.

Since Westeners are often not comfortable sitting in the lotus position, a popular meditation position is to simply sit in a chair with feet planted firmly on the floor and legs uncrossed. Your hands can lay comfortably in your lap or with your palms facing upward. Once again, you need to keep your spine erect and your head straight while in the seated pose.

With a kneeling meditation position, the meditator kneels while seated on the backs of his or her heels. The hands rest on his or her thighs. Once again, this position is one that is often difficult for Westerners and if you’re not used to it, it can cause damage to your knees.

The lying down position is also known as the corpse pose in yoga. The person lies back on a mat or carpeted floor with their arms resting gently by their sides and their palms rolled upward. Their legs are straight and their feet are gently turned outwards. This is a wonderful meditation posture for stress relief but it is much easier to fall asleep in this position.

You can also add hand positions to your meditation practice. For example, you can rest your right hand over your left with your thumbs pressed together. Another is to form a circle with the thumb and index finger of each hand. You can further induce a state of deep meditation by using a mantra or by focusing on your breathing. There are many ways of meditating born out of many traditions. The hardest part in meditation is finding a technique that works for you but you need to stick with a technique for more than a few weeks at a time before changing it.

Zen Meditation – How To Do Zen Meditation?-00-1131

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Zen meditation is probably best experienced by joining a local group. But you can do it alone. Zen meditation is normally practiced sitting on a cushion on the floor. There are two main items used for Zen Meditation, called zafu and zabuton. Between them, they can take the edge off sitting on a hard floor surface.

Uses of zabuton and Zafu:

The zabuton is a mat placed on the floor.
The zafu is a cushion that is placed on top of the zabuton.
They can help to take the pressure off your legs whilst you meditate.

Why you use cushions for meditation?

The idea of using cushions is to help you focus your mind on the meditation itself, rather than any aches or pains that you could experience whilst sitting on a hard wooden floor.

How to do the zen meditation?

The aim of Zen Meditation is to simply sit and open the “hand” of thought.
Traditionally, it is practiced in a sitting position, with folded legs and hands.
Your spine is kept upright during the meditation.

Sitting Positions:

There are several different sitting positions that you can take whilst practicing Zen Meditation. Select one which is comfortable for you. You can learn the sitting positions at http://cosmichealing.blogspot.com

Once you have reached your desired sitting position, half lower your eyelids so that your eyes are neither fully open nor fully closed. This will allow you to stay awake whilst not being distracted by outside objects.

Focus on Breathing:

When you start to practice Zen meditation, you will begin by concentrating. This usually involves focusing on your breath, often whilst counting. Over time, you will find that you can concentrate your mind easier each time you start to meditate.

Group Meditation:

Zen meditation is probably best experienced by joining a local group so that you can get the most out of the various teachings associated with it, together with the support that a practice group offers.

Spend some time regularly for zen meditation.
