Prenatal Yoga Classes And You

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Great benefits can come from joining in prenatal yoga classes once you find out your are expecting. It helps keeps your joints and muscles strong and limber as well as your body healthy and ready for labor once the time arrives. Let your body talk to you and tell you what limitations it has. Always listen to your body and do not over do it. Make sure your poses are perfectly aligned and balanced correctly to keep from injury’s happening.

Keep a slow pace not a fast one. This lessens your risk of injury and possible problems with your pregnancy. Heart rates of pregnant women should never go above the 140 BPM mark.

Dangerous stretches and yoga poses to never attempt while expecting include the full frontal and the belly down. Yoga instructors who are trained in prenatal classes should know which ones are safe.

Usually it is safe to take prenatal yoga classes about two to three times each week as long as no problems arise. No type of inversions should be attempted as they are dangerous to your health.

You should also avoid any poses which require you to lie completely on your back. This can be hazardous to your pregnancy. A true prenatal class will always omit any poses like these. If you need too you can always use a wall to lean against or a chair for support doing some moves. You should also take out any poses that use your muscles in your abdomen as well.

If you start to feel any form of pain, dizziness, nausea or stomach discomfort then stop immediately and take a break. While your are exercising be sure to take in more calories to ensure you and your baby’s health.

Be sure to drink 10 glasses of water each and every day especially when your doing yoga. Take it easy and watch yourself. Overdoing it can cause undue stress on you and the baby. Cooling down afterwards is a priority as is warming up before you start.

Doing the Ujjayi breathing technique in yoga will also come in handy when you go into labor too. It will help calm you and focus on your breathing instead of your nerves. This technique lets you slowly breathe in air in your nose, letting your lungs completely fill up. Then you simply exhale the entire breath.

Yoga clothing can be found in maternity sizes and is great layered as you will want to peel a few of these off once you have done the warm up before the class starts. Investing in a supportive and cushioned pair of yoga shoes or sneakers is also a priority as these will be the most comfortable on your feet.

You should also invest in a great fitting maternity bra which will give you much needed support and will be able to change with you as your body does through your pregnancy.

Enjoying prenatal yoga classes keeps your body happy and healthy and helps to ensure the happiness and health of your unborn baby also. Be sure to keep your doctor informed of all the exercises you are participating in.

Would You Consider Yoga for Curing Lumbar Pain?

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Of all the pain one could experience in the world, possibly the most prevalent and troublesome for many individuals is lower back pain. Lower back pain, which makes up the lumbar area, can occur for numerous reasons, such as lumbar stress, nerve soreness, lumbar radiculopathy, bone encroachment, and poor state of bones and joints. Depending on the reason for the pain, the severity of lower back pain can vary from being mild to serious.

Lower back pain may be tolerable for some, while others may not be as lucky, with lower back pain becoming so devastating that it disturbs their everyday life. Compared to the use of drugs and surgical treatments, one excellent alternative treatment for this problem is yoga for lower back pain and what’s more is that it is better and less expensive.

Today, several things can be undertaken to obtain back pain relief, like the intake of different anti-inflammatory drugs, chiropracters, physical therapy, stretching and strengthening exercises, yoga, and numerous surgical procedures, to name some. Though most medical procedures can easily treat lower back pain, many folks are hesitant, considering the many risks that are linked to these procedures. As a result, yoga exercises have become one of the more preferred natural and home remedies.

Thought to be one of the most desirable alternative treatments, yoga is a safe, economical, and valuable treatment for lower back problems, along with many others. Yoga was even found to be much more helpful than standard exercise routines, like aerobics, strengthening, and stretches for lower back pain, in offering chronic lower back pain relief.

Concurrently, an effective yoga style for reducing lower back pain is the Hatha yoga. In a study conducted, it was observed that regularly practicing yoga made patients take 80% less pain medicines and one-third of their pain lowered.

Obviously, you should thoroughly look into some things first, before practicing yoga for lower back pain. If lower back pain is due to an injury or trauma to the spine, it would be best to talk to a physician, a physical therapist, or a chiropractor first as erroneously practicing yoga with a spine injury may exacerbate the health. Likewise, if lower back pain is a result of disc herniation, yoga may also cause the problem to worsen, specifically when challenging styles are done, like Kundalini, Ashtanga, and Bikram.

Aside from the Hatha yoga, another excellent style that lower back pain sufferers can do is the Vini yoga. Not only is this style simple to master but it allows for poses that any body type can do. Generally bear in mind when dealing with lower back pain with yoga, simpleness, moderation, and gentleness is always better.

Acupuncture treatment back pain, yoga, back stretching exercises and undergoing a chiropractic care are just a few lower back pain relief solutions obtainable right now. Discover more at BackPainReliefReports.com.

What Is Yin Yoga?

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Yin Yoga is yoga that works the tissues of the body. While seemingly gentler and laid back than other yoga styles, in reality, it gives a tough, thorough workout that stretches the body.

Holding the postures takes long in this style of yoga and stretches the tissues and joints in various parts of the body. Because of its helpful benefits, some doctors prescribe a treatment of this type yoga to help people with addictions deal with the emotions and find the tranquility they need.

There are approximately 36 different positions to learn with this style. The purpose behind them is to draw the energy (or the chi) from dormancy to work throughout the body. The positions or asanas should be completed in a particular order to help achieve that energy filled body.

Yin Yoga is not the new kid on the block but rather a resurrection of traditional old style yoga. The main difference is found in the length of time used to remain in the same pose. Some of the poses are short – just a few minutes or so but other positions are held stationary for up to twenty minutes.

That might not seem like it’s such a workout, but try doing on the poses and holding it still (don’t forget the proper breathing!) for twenty minutes. If you haven’t ever done it and haven’t familiarized yourself with the correct techniques, by the end of the twenty minutes, your muscles will quiver from the exertion of holding still.

Relaxation and learning how to stretch the tissues and joints is an important part of this type of yoga. It’s only by knowing the first steps to limber and flex the body that you’ll be capable of moving on to the positions.

Learning the poses is what helps those who practice yoga with the meditation postures. Performing this yoga brings a satisfaction to the mind in that it relieves stress and it brings a relaxation to the body in that the tension is freed from the joints.

All forms of yoga can transform lives and can help to slow the ravages and the toil that time dishes out onto the body. Taking up Yin Yoga has a lot to offer anyone and it’s a great style for the beginner and those who are recuperating from emotional trouble. It can bring a deeper level of energy, balance and better health to all who practice it.

Walking Meditation – Good For The Body, Good For The Soul

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Everyone knows the value of walking. It helps your heart, your circulation and your tummy (a great calorie burner)

But here is something else for you to consider: why not use your walking exercise as a time for meditation?. Most people take up walking because it’s a great form of exercise, it is easy on the joints and it isn’t complicated to learn.

You don’t need any special equipment. Just start walking and you are instantly on your way to better health. When you add meditation to your walking, you will find the experience invaluable.

So what is walking meditation, or mindful walking? It is when you deliberately focus on your every step. You don’t have to increase your speed, in fact, you might begin by walking slower so you can get the hang of mindful walking.

When you focus on your walking, focus on how it feels as you raise your foot then place it back down, one step at a time. The practice of mindful walking has its roots in Buddhism, in particular the art of Ayatana. Christianity also has its version of walking meditation: walking the labyrinth.

Utilizing mindful walking helps you focus on the present. As you become more skilled at concentrating your focus on your footsteps and not on the troubles of your day, you will find your stress melting away.

The most familiar forms of meditation have you sitting with eyes shut, concentrating on mental clarity. With mindful walking, your eyes are wide open, taking in the outside world. This gives the walker the opportunity to get outside of the head and all its chatter; a very valuable experience, especially for westerners.

Here are some basic tips for walking meditation:

* Conduct your walking meditation in an area that you are familiar with.

* Shoot for a 20 minute time period. If that is too long for you, start with a 5 minute period and gradually increase your time to 20 minutes.

* Begin walking with good and relaxed posture.

* Focus on the sensations in your feet as they lift off the ground and touch the ground.

* Relax your arms.

* As you walk, keep your focus about 3 to 6 feet in front of you.

In conclusion, it is very easy to incorporate walking meditation into your regular daily routine. Not only will it improve your physical well-being, but you will also be taking your exercise program to a higher level by improving your mind and spirit.

Happy walking.

Health Benefits Of Yoga Exercise

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Yoga studios are springing up in many cities all over the world to cater to the demand by yoga beginners in the midst of the current economic downturn that is characterized by daily stress, fatigue and pollution. More and more people are taking up yoga classes to seek that elusive sense of relaxation, comfort and inward consciousness. It has provided them with a refuge away from the daily confusion and yielded benefits useful to their practical daily lives.

The benefits of yoga is that it is therapeutic both physically and mentally and it conditions the mind and body. Hatha yoga which is very popular in the west, for example, conditions the muscle joints making them flexible, tones the muscles, strengthens the spine, eases back pain, correct body postures, creates balance, improves overall fitness and health, increases circulation, strengthens the heart, reduces blood sugar levels and cholesterol and assists in weight loss.

It also creates balance and relaxes the mind and body, by freeing the spirit and sharpens mental concentration and awareness. Hatha yoga is known to relieve the symptoms of illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes, asthma, obesity, fatigue, arteriosclerosis and prolongs youthfulness. No wonder then that yoga is becoming a popular activity to help solve modern day illnesses and problems.

In practicing yoga, practitioners will attain a sense of centeredness, grace and coordination. The different postures in yoga heals and invigorates the body as it stretches and tones the muscles and joints and improving blood circulation and oxygen to the brain and other vital organs. Yoga postures involves every muscle of the body and challenges them in a passive way, creating resistance by moving the body’s centre of gravity. The quality of yoga postures and strengthening of the muscles brings relaxation and refreshes the body and mind.

Unlike other forms of exercise like aerobics or jogging, yoga when done correctly does not cause any strain or injury and has no negative effects. For beginners, it is recommended that the presence and direction of a qualified yoga teacher is sought before fully practicing yoga on one’s own.

Yoga is suitable for people of all ages, including children. It helps to develop self-discipline and improves a person’s physical and mental health. It also improves memory and concentration through breathing exercises, and for young people it enables them to keep their natural flexibility for years. The benefits that the practice of yoga provides far outweigh the time and effort that practitioners put in their daily routine.
