Meditation And Stress Control

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

It is a distressing fact many people react badly to stress. In the worst cases of prolonged stress, this can lead to nervous breakdowns and depression. Stress is rarely cited as the cause of death but doctors know that stress can lead to other, physical and mental, disorders, which can then lead to death by suicide or heart disease. Stress is a killer, there is no doubt about that. Yet a certain amount of stress often leads to a job being done better.

The trick is to learn how to deal with the situations that we find stressful. If the cause of the stress is financial, learn how to deal with your money better. If the reason is emotional, sort it out with your partner or get out of the relationship. If you are not happy in your job, get a new one or retrain. If you are content where you are, but you still need assistance to cope with your stress, then help is at hand.

There are many methods of working off stress. Some people like to go for a ’swift drink’ on the way home and that is okay as long as it is kept under control. Others like to go training or jogging. Others like to relax in a hot bath, a Jacuzzi or a sauna. Some enjoy a massage and others take up yoga and or meditation.

Stress is all in the mind. Even sport or training only ‘helps take your mind off’ your difficulties. It stands to reason then that if you want to overcome stress, you have to change the way your mind copes with it. Counseling will help some people, indeed they may need it, but most people can help themselves by getting a good book on meditation techniques.

Meditation is not easy to do properly unless you are a natural and there are some people like that, but for most of us it is a talent that we have to learn. If you want to learn and you stay with it, you will attain such a level of aptitude as will allow you to deal with stress and the problems that caused your stress. It will permit you to see the problems more clearly and maybe you will come to understand that they are not really problems at all – only challenges and tests, puzzles to be solved in a game.

Meditation is more than just thinking, but I cannot go into how to teach meditation in this short article. The Internet has loads of good quality Information on meditation, but I personally do not find reading a computer screen calming, which is why I advise getting a book, so that you can read it somewhere peaceful and practice what it explains.

Suitable places could be in your bedroom, on the decking or in the garden surrounded by your flowers. Indoors you could recreate the smells of the garden with scent and aromatherapy. Lavender is supposed to be soothing for a lot of people.

Some people like to play relaxing music, although it is better not to have words or you may become sidetracked. Some people like listening to whale songs. I like to start my meditation sessions by relaxing my whole body. I start by imagining little people inside my legs, arms and torso pulling wires to move my muscles. I start in my feet and tell each person one by one to take an hour’s tea break and I watch him leaving his post, in my big toe, for example, and walking up the inside of my leg to the canteen (wherever that is). Presently he is joined by other colleagues from other ‘departments’, until not a bit of my body is capable or movement, because there is no-one there to operate the muscles or wires.

Then I go back to the office in my head and I open up a crack in the ground. This crack keeps getting wider, very slowly getting wider and all the thoughts, problems and ideas that I have, play a game of jumping over the widening crack. Some are weak and fall down the crack soon. Other ideas are strong and determined and the crack has to get quite wide before they perish as well. Eventually, I am left alone, unless I decide to join in the game too and then the factory becomes completely deserted and there is a works shut down.

How To Improve Your Life With Sound Meditation

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

Meditation on sounds can be very useful for cultivating openness and spaciousness, and for connecting with life. Concentrating on the breath of the body, you can sometimes become too locked inside yourself. Listening to sounds is a wonderful meditation that enhance your life and opens you to the world around.

You can mediate to many various sounds: falling water, bells, singing birds, flutes etc. I have some great experience with sounds of dolphins. But the turning point in my meditations was when I found the Solfeggio frequencies. Currently I’m using only these specific sounds. Of course, you can choose any sounds you want, however these two will dramatically change your life in short time.

Dolphins are not only the most wonderful sea mammals. They also create healing and very relaxing tones, which are mixed with the beautiful sounds of the ocean. Within a seconds you can fully enjoy your meditation, but first download some mp3 with dolphins’ tones. Just lie on a bed or find comfortable posture. Relax your body by taking a deep breath and close your eyes.

Just play the music and pay close attention to the sounds without making up a story around them. Focus on the oceanic tones and do not filter or reject any of them. Meditate with clear intention to be aware and avoid external distraction.

If you haven’t heard anything about Solfeggio frequencies, you must know that they were used by the monks centuries ago. The Solfeggio frequencies are: 396, 417, 528, 639, 741 and 852 hz. They have different healing and psychological properties. I’ve tested them on myself and they will do the same for you: meditation with Solfeggios will change your whole life. So simply play the video and take your comfortable position.

Tune your attention to the Solfeggio frequencies. Breathe gently and let your mind and body relax. Do not reject any of these tones but simply listen to them. Open yourself to the music and be with each sound completely. After a short while your thoughts will concentrate on the sounds and you will feel released from worries. Stop the video and gently get up, trying to maintain the quality of attention. Meditating to the sounds of dolphins or Solfeggio frequencies will change your life, bringing you other dimensions of your awareness.

Interested in sound meditation with Solfeggio tones? Go to this Solfeggio frequencies site and remember to read about Solfeggio scale before listening to the sounds.

Why You Should Incorporate Meditation Techniques In Your Daily Lifestyle

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

When it comes to improving oneself, there are a lot of different methods; and for an individual to develop certain aspects of his life, he needs meditation and self improvement. These aspects can be about his thinking, overall health, controlling vices, and other areas that need to be improved.

One of the best things about meditation is that it does not require any particular equipment or money for its techniques to be learned. Many years of training is not required either.

Meditation is, in fact, the technique of clearing the mind to focus on one particular aspect. Again, this can be anything that needs further improvement. It can be something that needs to be developed, healed, or solved. For instance, it can be a long time problem that needs a resolution.

When a person meditates, he sits down comfortably, focuses his mind on a specific object, and breathes deeply, slowly, and deliberately. The object he has to focus on can be a flower, a lighted candle, or just about anything that can help set his mind. Turning on the television or computer is not advisable during meditation as this can be very distracting.

One way to maintain focus is to seek guided meditations. These styles of meditation can help a person achieve his goals by helping him focus on personal development, positive thinking, and self improvement. These will also tackle with his health issues such as weight control, curing insomnia, and quitting smoking.

Usually, there is soft music that accompanies the voice of the person presenting the meditation. This soothing music helps the person undergoing meditation to focus on the important words and leave his surrounding environment behind to embark on his journey towards self improvement.

There are different meditation techniques directed towards self improvement that allow a person to attain deeper levels of meditation. However, finding a specific technique that works best is not easy and may take some time.

One form of meditation is the autogenic form. Basically, it allows a person to open a communication channel that links his conscious mind and super-conscious mind. This form makes use of imagery, feelings, and intuition to allow the person to achieve the goals that he has set.

The Vipassana is another form of meditation that is also great for self improvement. It uses breathing techniques. It also focuses on the physical sensations of the body to help a person reach his goals. The Vipassana is mostly used in controlling and eliminating negativity to cultivate self improvement. Nonetheless, objectives can also be achieved by having a positive mind and attitude.

People say that prayer is talking to God. Meditation, on the other hand, is listening to God’s solutions and directions to accomplish the goals we set. Surely, meditation is one of the best practices that can help us achieve peace of mind, our goals, and a joyful soul. Meditation is a good practice that can benefit just about anyone.

The Art Of Mindful Meditation

Friday, March 25th, 2011

What comes into your mind when the word “mindfulness” is mentioned? This is a state of being courteous with an issue at hand. This sense of awareness (of something happening around you) is initiated by your ears or eyes. This awareness is more within the person based on the outside happenings.

The problem with many people is that they don’t give this state of Mindfulness the necessary consideration due to the rush to understand what is happening. The difference between trying to understand the situation and mindfulness is that the later brings you to a state of awareness which in return makes you more open to respond and avoid the temptation to be negative.

The mind has the tendency of deliberately focusing on an issue. This is what we refer to as mindfulness – the point of focus being concentrated for a particular incident at a particular moment. Mostly it does this with no aim of passing conclusions about the mater.

Since mindfulness involves an unfocused awareness by the mind, it brings awareness to the person of what is happening in him. It is a concept imbedded in a person and it’s both philosophical and cultural.

The psyche and the stress level in a person have been known to reduce drastically when the mindfulness techniques are properly applied.

There are different ways to enhance the art of mindfulness. Among the common known are methods include; Yoga, Echo therapy, music therapy, mindful breathing or thinking. All these are known to be meditative in nature.

There is a vast difference between ‘Mindful’ meditation and Mindful concentration. In “Mindful” concentration the mind is focused on one particular point, thought or word. All attempts of the mind to wonder to other things are discouraged.

Mindful meditation involves does not shut out other thoughts instead it ensures that they are taken into consideration. As a matter of fact, mindful meditation will observe all what is happening around the person and inform accordingly.

Yoga And Its Importance

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Yoga is a traditional system of healing for the mind and body. It means union. It is a popular belief that yoga can cleanse your body of toxins and improve muscle tone, as well as help in blood circulation. Yoga was first originated in India, where it still remains a living tradition and is followed as a means to enlightenment. This spiritual practice has been evolving for more than 5,000 years now. In yoga there are many spiritual and physical exercises that are practiced to improve ones health and well being. It is very beneficial for people suffering from anxiety, arthritis, headache, migraine, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis, and much more.

Healthy body and happiness:

It is a popular saying that a sound mind could lead to a healthy body. Everybody has the right to be happy. Happiness and peace comes from within. It depends on your thinking and also on your body. Your body’s health and your mind are directly related. Only if you have a healthy body will you be free from any physical pain, and your mind will not be disturbed. Without good health you cannot be completely at peace. In yoga various types of meditation are taught, and you are made to concentrate on your inner self. It helps to focus on positive thinking and push all the negative thoughts away. Every disease and sickness is considered nothing more than an imbalance in the natural harmony of the body and mind. Restoring this balance leads to true healing.

Yoga has become very popular worldwide. People are seeking for it, as they realize the importance of self-contentment and inner peace. Be it work pressure or health problems, yoga can help you see through it. Following yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation can relieve you from all pains and troubles. Yoga can also help you to lose weight. It lets you tune in, chill out, and shape up, all at the same time.

Health benefits of Yoga:

Yoga is said to be beneficial for healing many problems. Some of the benefits of yoga are:

• Helps to control anxiety
• Reduces stress
• Improves arthritis, back pain, and osteoporosis
• Relieves asthma
• Controls blood pressure, diabetes and epilepsy
• Combats chronic fatigue and depression
• Cures headaches, heart disease and multiple sclerosis
• Improves concentration and creativity
• Improves blood circulation
• Lowers fat
• Creates a sense of well being and calm

Risks:

It is very important to practice yoga under the supervision of an experienced and well-trained trainer; otherwise doing wrong exercises can sometimes worsen your problem and lead to complications. The best time to do yoga is said to be in the morning. Pregnant ladies can also do yoga, as it helps in easy delivery and helps lose weight post pregnancy.

Reach your goals:

Yoga means to unify all forms of life. It has a holistic approach to all aspects of life – physical, mental and spiritual life. Each person is considered a unique combination of body, mind and soul. It teaches the importance of maintaining harmony between the mind and the body. One can achieve happiness, contentment, liberation and enlightenment from the union with the divine consciousness known as Brahman, or with Atman, the transcendent Self. With yoga, one can achieve these goals.

Yoga In Practice: Projecting Happiness

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

We are all human, living life with its many “ups and
downs,” but how can we keep our spirits up in difficult times? There are many types of Yoga, and not all are physical styles, like the many popular Hatha Yoga sub-styles. To name one that is not Hatha, and classified as one of the nine main Indian Yoga styles, there is Bhakti Yoga – the union of love, devotion, and worship.

The principle of Bhakti Yoga is universal to all people of all religions. A person who sings, prays, worships, and helps another person is practicing this form of Yoga – whether they have heard of Bhakti Yoga or not. It does not matter what religion you are because singing, praying, worshiping, forgiving, and helping are morally right.

To quote one of the most enlightened men of the 20th
century, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Therefore, life is a daily Yoga practice, even if you do not attend a Yoga class. When you help others, you are practicing Yoga. It could be argued that you are practicing other forms of Yoga, but that is not the purpose of this article. It is more important to understand that you can help others in many ways, and it does not have to cost you a fortune.

Projecting happiness is free and does not require a lot of money. Here are some ideas that will help you to be happier, and hopefully, more worry free. Whether you are a beginner, Yoga practitioner, Yoga teacher, or Master teacher of Yoga, you should spread happiness to everyone you meet.

Listen to everyone, regardless of his, or her, social
status. Let go of judgment; it makes fools of all of us. Pre-judgment is prejudice, and this is the one thing that prevents world peace. To some degree, we all have felt it, but you must discard it, suppress it, and never teach it.

You cannot listen if you are talking at the same time. The wisest and most educated person has learned that the purpose of listening is to understand; understanding is knowledge, and knowledge is power. There are times, when you cannot listen. This could be due to time restraints, the fact that you may have heard it all before, or possibly you do not consider this person’s opinion to be important.

My grandfather had a saying, “Even the court jester can teach you something about life.” Sometimes, we take the help, or opinions of others, for granted. How many times do we seek more information in order to make the best decision? The final decisions you make, in any given situation are entirely up to you, but when you can sit back and listen, that is time for learning.

Try to avoid arguments and stay the course of peaceful co-existence. You may not always be able to do this, but you should try to improve. You could keep a log of daily situations that end peacefully and those that did not.

This is not meant to make you feel guilty, but it is a
course in self-improvement.

You will then see your daily shortcomings and your success. Learn to develop your power of influence for the common good.

It does not matter who is right, especially, if your
intention is to proliferate happiness. Related to this, I share one more quote by Mahatma Gandhi.

“What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty or democracy?” – Mahatma Gandhi

Think about these words, and how you can make the world around you a happier place. This concept is contagious, but it has to come from within and spread worldwide.

How You Can Apply The Principles Of Yoga To Any Area Of Your Life

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Yoga is a physical demanding form of training which can develop in you physical, emotional and spirtual strength. There are many studies out there that show that people who practice yoga are calmer, more at peace and better able to deal with the challenges that surface in life. Living a life of wealth and happiness involves you being a well balanced and strong person. Increased strength, flexibility and balance are also great physical advantages to practicing yoga.

Even after only a short time of practicing yoga I have seen my flexibility, strength and balance improve. It has also helped me to develop a deep connection to the supplier of my power. I know how to connect to this source of power to bring clarity, purpose and success into my life.

The Core Power of Strength

Your back and abdominal area is where your core strength lies. These are the muscles you engage and develop in order for you to develop strength and balance throughout your body. In yoga, your focus needs to be on engaging your core strength in order for you to complete many of the postures. If your core is strong you are better able to balance and hold your postures.

Power from your core will radiate out through your whole body. Yoga teaches you how to tap into and engage this power. It was when I started to use the power of my core that I noticed that it was my core that provided me the strength to do most everyday tasks. Focusing in on it, I could easily radiate that power out within my body to the areas I needed to perform the certain tasks.

It was as I started to learn this, and was able to see the strength of my core, that I could easily see how it was also the source of power for all things. I saw huge potential in my life when I could tap into this power. This is the power you need to be successful in all areas of your life not just physically.

Living through your core allows you to make pure and right decisions. Your mind is far too sensible and your heart is too emotional. Your gut will always speak to you in truth and perfect balance. This is why you’re always advised to ‘Listen to your gut.’ This is the part that connects to the true source of power right in the center of your being.

During times of tough decisions turn directly to your core, it will clearly instruct you as to what you need to do It never lies, it is never wrong and you will feel the strength of your core decision radiating outwards to keep you balanced and strong.

Great success will occur when you live through this space. With what seems like no effort from you, things will fall easily into place. Creativity will freely flow and your work will be fueled by the strength of the energy and passion that comes out from your core.

Gains are made through tiny, eeper Stretches each time

Only stretch from the level you are at when getting into a posture. Stretch a little deeper so that you feel a slight challenging discomfort but never go to far so that you cause some damage. Moving at this pace will give you steady improvements each week. You are not going to increase your flexibility to yogi status in one go- that’s wrought with much danger. Stretch a little deeper each time and you will arrive in a more peaceful, knowledgeable way.

When you are progressing to the actualization of your goals, take it steady. Take small steps outside of your comfort zone so that you push the boundaries for growth but don’t stretch it too far that it takes you out altogether.

Use your Breath to Keep You Focused and Relaxed

To assist you in your poses you have to know how to breathe. When you pay attention to your breath, you notice that when a pose or posture becomes difficult, your breath sharpens, increases or disappears. To relax and settle into the posture your breath must be even and deep.
Your breath is the most important aspect of any stance or anything in life- obviously, as long as you’re breathing you’re doing okay, right? During the challenging times of your life, the first step is to remember to breathe correctly. This will bring to you the clarity you need to relax, and the strength you need to reach a little further will follow.

Let Go

Yoga is all about learning to let go and experiencing your body. Experiencing your body will allow you to challenge it and take it to a whole new place. When you release yourself to the posture your whole body and mind will relax which will allow you to increase your flexibility and create a whole new flow of energy.

In life, you have to learn to let go of everything you are holding. All your stresses, problems and stories. Just let them go and allow yourself to relax, gain strength and create a whole new flow of energy.

To attain wealth and happiness in your life you have to develop a healthy mind and body. Yoga is such an empowering way for you to balance and strength your whole self. Learn to use the principles of yoga to bring about dramatic improvements in all areas of your life.

Chakra Meditation: 7 Chakra Meditation Techniques To Instantly Relieve Your Ailments

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Our body has seven different vital energy centers or meridians. When one of the meridians is out of balance, it results in anxiety and out-of-balance feeling. Sometimes, it also causes ailments like pain and emotional suffering.

One of the best ways to balance your meridians is to meditate. When you feel centered and grounded, you feel at ease with rest of the world and hence you feel a general sense of well being and happiness. An ungrounded human being feels exactly the opposite. He or she feel out of synch with rest of the world, and has a general sense of anxiety and stress. The feeling of out-of-sync causes health and relationship issues over long term.

You are about to discover how to resolve most of your life-problems simply by focusing on the chakra (meridian) that is out-of-balance. Following this simple and easy-to-implement will help you guide through your challenges and strengthen your spiritual muscles.

There are seven vital energy centers. Muladhara is the first and lowest chakra situated at the base of the spine. It is said to be the storage of kundalini. Muladhara energy is called “the electrical force of creation, the cohesive power of matter”. Meditation upon this center leads to the mastery of desire, jealousy, anger and passion.

Svadisthana is the second chakra situated at the root of the genitals. Meditation on this center gives ability to see and to communicate with entities that inhabit the astral world.

Manipura is the third chakra located near the navel. Meditation on this center heal illness, fulfill secret desires, and gives insight into the deepest consciousness of other mind.

Anahata is the fourth chakra situated in the chest, near the heart. Meditation upon this center strengthens the psychic faculties, generates the ability to hear and see at great distances, and ensures material fortune.

Vishuddha is the fifth chakra located at the base of the throat and is considered the doorway to the plane of eternal wisdom. “Whoever will concentrate upon this center,” an old saying goes, “Becomes a sage in the sacred knowledge, a prince among yogis”

Ajna is the sixth chakra situated between the eyebrows at the site of “the third eye.” It is the seat of our mental capacity, the abode of the individual consciousness and our meeting point with the divine. Meditating on this center brings us into contact with our spiritual guru, and initiates us into the secret knowledge of tantra.

Sashasrara is the final chakra lies just above the crown of the head. Here, the final goal of tantra meditation is achieved. The sashasrara controls the six centers below it.

Practice these meditation techniques on a regular basis to enhance your life and feel the connection with untapped source of universal energy.
