Improved Health and Well Being from Mindfulness Meditation

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Many scientific and medical studies have demonstrated the many benefits of practicing mindfulness meditation. This practice of mindfulness has been effective in the treatment of fibromyalgis, chronic depression, anxiety and also in the handling of persistent pain. The many advantages of mindfulness meditation practice include

1. Increased Ability to Relax.

2. Greater capability to Cope.

3. More Energy.

4. Greater ability to Focus.

5. Greater Peace of Mind.

6. Greater sense of Integrety

Human beings have for many thousands of years engaged in practices of meditation and contemplation. They have practiced bringing the awareness of the present moment to their experiences in their body, into their heart and into their mind. These practices, that can be referred to as sacred technologies, help many people develop more kindness, more compassion and empathy, and help expand their capacity to be more accepting of the ups and the downs that life brings to each of us.

This practice of mindfulness has in in recent times had a growing impact on our Western culture. Mindfulness does not necessitate adherence to a particular set of religious beliefs or to a given spiritual point of view. Practicing mindfulness can, and does, enhance one’s development through the various stages of the spiritual life. The practice of mindfulness can help in the negotiating those key transitions of personal and spiritual development that everyone must at given periods in their life take.

Fortunately , mindfulness is not something one has to “get” or attain. Mindfulness is already there within you. It is a deep internal source available to you and it is patiently waiting in order to be released and employed in the service of healing, learning and growing..

Individuals participate in the practice of mindfulness for reasons as diverse as…

Stress — job, family or money. Protracted discomfort and illness. Hysteria and panic.

Sleep disturbances or Fatigue

Elevated blood pressure Headaches

These individuals are sent by their doctors or they’re self-referred. Many such people enroll on courses because, although they’re feeling well physically, they say the pace of their lives is “out of control” or they “are just not feeling quite right.” Mindfulness enables you to follow the great instruction of the poet Max Erhmann who wrote in his poem titled Desiderata,

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste and remember what peace there might be in silence.

Mindfulness is a personal development technique that allows you to be present and to invite the joys of presence arising from within you. Instead of your spending time getting anxious and wondering what the future will bring you have your attention focused on the present moment and in a magical way the worry and the anxiety start to flow out of the mind and the body. This practicing of mindfulness costs you nothing except for the time and the commitment to the practice that is needed. Mindfulness is a practical art and brings you into the abundance of the presence you have always been but have forgotten.

Group Meditation: A Skill and a Science. (II)

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

Makes a contribution to our incentive. We can have a bigger impetus to perform our daily practice as the group gives us a sense of belonging and identity as a mediator and promotes us to do good enough to contribute something positive in the subsequent session. Although ideally our incentive must be internal, many individuals need an extra push to keep on the practice even in hard times.

We develop a web of similar minded friends. These are folks you can turn to when we would like to get guidance or talk about our experiences because their views and interests are like ours.

Drawbacks

Agree on the sort of meditation. We must reach a consensus with the other group members on the sort of meditation practice, but most might be decided by a single type of meditation, which might be very effective for us.

Accept the time of meditation. If the group comes to a decision to meditate for a substantial period of time (as an example one hour) we're going to have to do the activity during that period, even if we are able to not or don't want to do for such a long time. (Ley de Atraccion)

The group’s principles. Some meditation strategies (and groups) are based mostly on a specific religion or philosophy that isn't be compatible with ours.

The energy of the group. In some types of meditation, we experience a big hike in energy and if the amount is over we may feel completely overwhelmed or confused , however , some groups do meditation exercises ruling energy in the group.AtreveteAVivir

Yoga is experienced by over 20 million Americans daily. Each day people are reporting their superb experiences with Yoga. The most essential benefit of yoga is physical and mental therapy. The aging procedure, which is mostly an artificial condition, caused mainly by autointoxication or self-poisoning, can be delayed by practicing yoga. For getting maximum advantage of yoga one has to merge the practices of yogasanas, pranayama and meditation. Yoga is all about feeling good; feel the blood surging through your veins.

Yoga helps us to get profound respiration which broadens the oxygen consumption to the system cells, together with the plump cells. Yogic exercises cause more continual and deeper respiration which slowly but surely burns. The loosening and drill components of yoga have a important character to beat in the handling and prevention of higher blood force hypertension. Yoga is supposed to cut pain by helping the mind’s pain centre govern the gate-controlling mechanism located in the spinal cord and the secretion of normal painkillers in the system. Breathing exercises used in yoga can too cut pain. Yoga’s inclusion of loosening techniques and meditation can too help out to cure pain.

Effectiveness of yoga help to reduce pain due to its application on self-awareness. Regular rehearse of asanas, pranayama and meditation can relieve various ailments such as diabetes, digestive disorders, arthritis, arteriosclerosis, chronic fatigue, asthma, varicose veins and heart conditions. Following Yoga also results in greater reduction in anxiety scores than drug therapy. Back pain is the most common reason to seek medical attention. Yoga has constantly been used to treat and avoid back pain by enhancing strength and flexibility. Both acute and long-term stress can lead to muscle tension and exacerbate back problems.

Practicing yoga can identify chronic pain victims with helpful tools to dynamically deal with their pain and help counter feelings of helplessness and depression. Yoga is effective for all, despite of age, color, caste, creed or religion; from the healthiest to the sickest, from the richest to the poorest, from the whitest to the blackest. Regular yoga practice can help in weight management. There are several asanas, such as the shoulder stand and the fish posture, which are specific for the thyroid gland. Fat metabolism is also increased, so fat is converted to muscle and energy. Yogic practices that reduce anxiety tend to reduce anxious eating.

What’s So Different About Group Meditation?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Is Group Meditation for you?

Answer: This is somthing personal and only you can find out for yourself through experimenting!

Every individual has personal preferences and everyone meditates for their own unique reason. Why have you chosen to meditate and what do you hope to achieve from your experiences? Answering these two simple questions might already help you to determine if group meditation is for you.

If you’re still not sure about group meditation and whether or not this form of meditation practice is for you, keep reading to learn about my roommates personal experience with group meditating!

Question: What did you like about your Group Meditation experience?

What I liked was that there was a guru taking us through the whole meditation and she was awesome at setting the pace of the whole thing, observing us and if for example somebody got emotional she would quickly say something like “it’s ok to shed some tears if you feel you have to”. Also when you feel that there are so many people with you doing it, it helps you concentrate and you feel the great energy in the whole room

Question:  How was your personal meditation experience different in a group vs. when you meditate in private at home?

My personal meditation is different in a way that I can decide how fast/slow I want to go with it. I decide what I want to do when I reach the deep state and I allow things to come. In a group guided meditation you accept that the guru takes you on that journey and you listen to his/her instructions.

Question: Do your prefer private or group meditations? Is group meditation something you would recommend to others?

I prefer private meditations simply because I like to meditate in my own way, but I would strongly recommend it to anyone who has problems with what to do next or what to visualize next or when someone simply wants to do it with others  because it gives you so much energy. After group meditation there is a moment when people can share their experiences and that’s something you don’t get when you do it on your own. Sometimes there are feelings or thoughts that come that you don’t know how to explain and group mediation let’s you see that there are people who go through exactly the same and your guru gives you tips or explains what happened.

I’ve also experienced a couple of group meditations and I think that they’re great to do, just not all the time! I still love my personal and private sessions, but there are many benefits to be sought from a group meditation experience. Don’t be afraid to try something new and start looking for group meditation sessions today, it’s an experience you should definitely try out for yourself

And the best type of Meditation is…

Friday, May 21st, 2010

What is the best type of meditation?

This is a typical question that’s asked on a regular basis. Is there a special type of meditation to relieve my stress? Pain? Help me sleep better at night? Awaken me to my spiritual greatness?

The answer is simple and involves some homework on your end.

There is no single best type of meditation. There is no single best meditation course or cd or audio. There is no best meditation technique or teacher.

Everyone has unique experiences, desire and needs to fulfill. That being said, it only makes sense to realize that each person will experience the types of meditation in a very different way.

There is no right or wrong meditation, but rather there is the right kind of meditation for you. Begin to meditate using different techniques, audios and guides and pay attention to what resonates the most with you. Is there one type of meditation that brings you to a deep state of mind? Is there that one meditation audio that really helps you to live in the present?

Some types of meditation for you to try are:

Healing Meditation: A great meditation to start off with if you have physical ailments

Guided Meditation: I recommend guided meditations for beginners because you have someone guiding you through your meditation experience

Walking Meditation: Not sure if you can sit in one place for an extended period of time? Do some research to learn more about walking meditation and how it can benefit you.

And the list goes on….

Manifesting Your Spirituality By Manifesting Higher Consciousness Through Meditation

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

When you wish to manifest a higher consciousness through meditation, you are activating your spiritual aspirations. You are aligning yourself with all of those ideas, persons, situations and experiences that you are trying to attract. You are raising the vibrational level of your consciousness so that you are a match for that which you seek.

Many people have tried to meditate but many give up before they experience results. Remember why you want to manifest a higher consciousness when you are tempted to quit your meditation practice. Like any other muscle, your meditation muscle must be exercised regularly. When you aspire with sincerity and dedication, you can go beyond where you are today and become tomorrow what you seek – your highest self.

Follow the suggestions below to help set your inner stage to foster a meditative energy. You will need to develop the discipline of meditation in order to raise and manifest your higher consciousness.

· Set your intention each morning to spend time in silence that day. Write down your intention.

· Choose a place. Regularly spend your time of silence in the same place, an area or room that is clean, neat, inspiring and above all, private and quiet. You may enjoy flowers, a candle, an art object or a special chair to sit in. Personalize your space to make it beautiful and uniquely yours.

· Choose a time. Be specific. ‘6:00 a.m.’ is more fruitful than ‘when I first get up in the morning’. ‘1:00 p.m.’ has more clarity than ‘sometime during my lunch hour.’

· Begin. Immediately after showering, in the morning and/or evening, is an excellent time for being still. Sit where you are most comfortable, in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Keep your spine erect.
-Choose a focal point: your breath, a candle flame, flower, art object
-Breathe slowly and deeply 3-5 times to relax the body/mind
-Focus gently on an object, eyes half open
-Release all identification with your thoughts;
place your ego-mind on your shoulder
-Relax into a peaceful, thought-free silence for 5 to 10 minutes

· Continue to develop one-pointed concentration by focusing all of your energies more intensely on one subject or object. It is like having a divine warrior inside you.
· Experiment. Focus on one special word – peace, joy, creativity, expansion, love, abundance. Repeat your word, silently or aloud.

· Read spiritual books. For inspiration, associate with people who have been meditating for some time.

· Pray and/or Meditate. Now would be an auspicious time to soulfully pray and begin to meditate. Do this in your own way or get further instruction.

In the beginning, spend more time on concentration. Feel that your power of concentration is coming from your heart centre which is where your soul is located. Your concentration will then be surcharged with the soul’s light. When the light of the soul illumines the mind, no negative forces can enter into the mind.
During your periods of concentration, you may find that you can meditate for a short time without mind movement. Continue with no expectation. Just as you do not see immediate muscle development when you first start to lift weights, it takes time to develop your meditation muscle.

If you feel that you are satisfied with what you have and what you are, then there is no need for you to enter into the practice of meditation. The reason we enter into meditation is because we have an inner hunger. We feel that within us there is something luminous, vast and divine. We feel that we need this thing very badly, only right now we do not have access to it. Our inner hunger comes from our spiritual need.

Meditation is a dynamic, active power; it is movement. Movement itself is progress and increases the richness of our reality. Through concentration and with discipline you will have fruitful meditations that can bring you peace, light, love and happiness. As you open to the plenitude of the Universe, you will find that you are manifesting a higher consciousness through your meditation.
