Knowing The Benefits Of Meditation Can Help You Immensely

Monday, June 28th, 2010

In today\’s busy lifestyle with all the worries about finances and family, it is important to take time out for yourself. Through meditation, you can gain a sense of inner peace and calm that will help you deal with all the stresses of your daily life.

This is but one of the benefits of meditation, however, and can explain why so many people are turning to meditation to find solace in their hectic lives. There is a need for silence and inner peace that you can only get by engaging in meditation on a daily basis.

One of the benefits of meditation is that is can reduce the amount of stress in your life. For a short time each day, you can forget about your worries and spend time focusing on yourself. You will need to have a quiet room for this purpose where you can sit for a length of time uninterrupted by the phone or distractions from others.

Most people find it beneficial to engage in this activity early in the morning when the rest of the household is still sleeping. Meditating at this time of day will also help you feel relaxed and ready to face whatever comes at you during the day.

In addition to giving you peace of mind there are health benefits of meditation. In order to prepare your body to meditate, it means relaxing your body to clear your mind of all thoughts. Breathing is the main method of achieving this relaxed state and the deep breaths bring the oxygen into deep portions of the lungs.

Inhaling a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds, and letting it out slowly helps to slow down the heartbeat. This in turn lowers the blood pressure and increases the blood flow to the brain and other organs of the body. The blood carries the nutrients that the cells of the body need to work properly, aiding in body metabolism. Increased blood flow also increases the activity of the brain.

Sometimes the medical conditions you suffer from are the result of inner turmoil in the brain or other parts of the body. By helping them to relax and letting go of the negative energy causing them to feel stressed, you can bring about healing. Some people who have practiced meditation for a number of years say that one of the benefits of meditation in times of illness is that it can help you control the amount of pain you have.

Another benefit of meditation is that you can gain control of your thoughts. As you learn the art of meditation, you can learn to banish all thoughts from your mind so that you have an empty space. While thoughts will surface, you learn how to acknowledge them and dismiss them instead of concentrating on them, thus losing the focus of the meditation.

When you learn how to achieve this state you not only develop peace of mind, but you are also able to develop a greater understanding of your thoughts and perhaps come up with solutions to your problems. You are able to create a sense of detachment from the problems of your daily life, if only for a short period of time—this helps in healing your body.

In addition to giving you peace of mind there are health benefits of meditation. In order to prepare your body to meditate, it means relaxing your body to clear your mind of all thoughts. Breathing is the main method of achieving this relaxed state.

Meditation For Stress Relief – What If 10 Minutes A Day Could Change Your Life?

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Reduced levels of stress and peace of mind can be achieved successfully with meditation. Most people have so many thoughts running through their mind on a daily basis that cause them stress including family, work and money related issues. If this is you, then you will benefit from a few minutes of quieting your mind each day. You can achieve both peace of mind and better health with a regular meditation practice even in only for a few minutes a day.

With so many demands on your time, it may be hard to even imagine spending 30-60 minutes a day practicing meditation but if you can take it once step at a time and commit to just 10 minutes per day to start, you will begin to notice some remarkable benefits even with this short time commitment. Self care is essential in helping you to maintain your energy and your health for all of your other daily activities and meditation is suitable for anyone.

Meditation is not a simple practice. The majority of people, when they take notice, find that their mind jumps around from thought to thought and their thoughts can even be quite repetitive. Once you begin practicing meditation, you will notice this. Begin meditating by following the flow of your breath. As you inhale through your nose, pay attention to the sensation in your nostrils and feel your breath travel deep down into your lower abdomen and back up and out again. By focusing on your breathing regularly even when you are not actively meditating, you will begin to feel more relaxed.

You can also try another focusing technique which requires you to stare at a fire or a candle flame. You need only to focus on the flicker of the flames. This gives your mind something to do so that it won’t jump around from thought to thought so much.

Or, you may want to try a mantra for the purpose of focusing your mind. You simply repeat your chosen word silently to yourself while in meditation and you can also visualize the word before you if you like.

Don’t become frustrated if you notice your mind wandering, simply return your focus to your breathing. Remember that anything worthwhile doing takes practice to become good at it. That’s why they call it a “practice”. You won’t master it in a day. Keep practicing, if only for 10 minutes per day without worrying about trying to be marathon meditator and you’ll soon be enjoying the stress relief benefits of meditation.
